A Pattern of Break-Ins in Cooper

Cooper Review/Cindy Roller

Delta County authorities are seeking information regarding the recent burglaries where suspects used a pickaxe to break into several local Cooper businesses.

Approximately two weeks ago, thieves broke into the Nu Way, located on East Dallas Avenue, entering through the roof, damaging the interior ceiling tiles and made off with a small amount of cash from the gaming machines before sounding the alarm.

The caller who reported the incident described the suspect as a “slim Caucasian male wearing blue jeans, a black sweatshirt or hoodie and a black baseball cap.”

It is believed the suspect might have caused a house fire at 950 SE 4th Street as a distraction from burglary.

Suspects struck again last Friday. This time breaking into Professional Land and Title Company, located on the East Side of the Square, through the backdoor and using pick axes to deconstruct the recently renovated walls gaining access into the adjacent vacant unit and then into the Cooper Outlet next door, setting off the alarm. No items were reported stolen.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incidents but look as if they are related.

If anyone has information please contact the Lake Country Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (903) 885-2020.
