Greenville – Safety concerns are keeping residents out of a Downtown Greenville apartment complex that caught fire in late April. Fire damaged just two of the units in the Townhouse Apartments but smoke filled the complex, forcing residents to seek shelter elsewhere. The City of Greenville is now trying to bring the building up to code, according to City Attorney Andy Bench. Some of the requirements imposed are the installation of a hard-wired fire alarm, fire-rated doors, a system to prevent the spread of smoke, and numbered doors and landings.
