Phone Scams Being Received in Commerce

Commerce, TX – With today's economy and the fast pace of the internet, people are often looking to make money, and thieves are getting more sophisticated in their methods. In the last week, Commerce police have been made aware of phone scams being reported by residents in the area. The calls range from claiming Publisher's Clearinghouse prizes to international lottery winnings, often requiring fees or personal information. Police warn that legitimate contests will never ask you for any registration fees or to give out your personal information over the phone. When in doubt, hang up - no matter how convincing the person is on the other line.
