Photos: Rains County Homes Damaged, Destroyed By Tornado

The same tornado that ripped through Van Zandt County on April 29 continued into Rains County, where the path of the storm passed just east of the Emory city limits.

Cleanup efforts continued Monday, with some roads still closed to through traffic as law enforcement officers and work crews continued to restore order to the area. Along U.S. Hwy. 69, Rains County Road 779 remained closed as of Monday afternoon. Rains County Emergency Management Coordinator Jon Wedeking estimated that about 15 homes had been destroyed and that between 25 and 35 other homes in the county were damaged, but that work crews have not completed damage surveys.
