Pilot identified in small plane crash

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – Authorities have identified the pilot killed following a crash of his aircraft in south Hunt County.

65-year-old Jimmy Gaston Phillips was alone inside the single-engine plane when it crashed near his own airfield, Phillips Flying Ranch Airport, about 15 southeast of Rockwall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident reportedly took place Tuesday night, but the crash site was not located until yesterday morning. The plane was said to be found about 300 yards away from the grass runway.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the wreck.
