Plain & Fancy Shoppe returns to Commerce

Commerce – Weather permitting; a new business geared toward serving Texas A&M University-Commerce students, among others, is scheduled to open Wednesday.

Plain and Fancy Sandwich Shoppe will fill the vacancy at 1708 Monroe Street, across the street from Prairie Crossing. The business has been in operation in Sulphur Springs for the last 14 years, and was once located in downtown Commerce.

Property owner Mike Oglesby says bringing Plain and Fancy back to town is part of an ongoing effort to attract students.

"We're trying to create things to keep the kids in town," said Oglesby.

Plain and Fancy offers sandwiches, soups, drinks and desserts. More information is available at http://www.plainandfancyshoppe.com/index.html. Business hours will be Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday; closed Sunday.

Bad weather could delay the business' opening an additional day.

Oglesby is also currently working with University administrators to renovate the building at 1600 Lee Street, just north of campus, into an apartment/business venue. The hope is to attract a grill-style restaurant by the fall.
