Plane crash victim that of Plano man

Quitman – The survivor of a small plane crash near Quitman Thursday morning has been identified as Michael Thern, of Plano.

The 36-year-old was piloting the plane when it wrecked near the Wood County Airport at around 5 a.m. He was the only person on board.

Thern was flown by air ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler where he was being treated for lacerations and possible broken ankles. Rescue workers used four-wheelers and ATVs to get to the crash site.

No word yet on what may have caused the crash.
