Commerce – Design plans for the new music building at Texas A&M University-Commerce are in the works. Department Head and Associate Professor of Music Chris White says the University is nearing completion on the schematic, or room design, phase of the project. Next they will arrange how those rooms will be put together; a process called design documents. The third and final phase is construction documents; or mechanical, electrical and heating, ventilation and air condition configuration. The goal is to break ground by late summer.

White says music students are especially excited about the move to the new building. He also says that in this early stage of fundraising, the University has already received several very generous donations. Recently, Jack Finney of Greenville pledged $500,000 toward the building. The $3 million facility will be built on a portion of the existing Student Center property. Eventually the MSC will come down to allow for the entire construction of the music building. Completion date is planned for May 2010.
