Plea in A&M-Commerce shooting expected today

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A plea is expected today in connection with a shooting on the A&M-Commerce campus in March of last year. 20-year-old William Baker is scheduled to enter pleas for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The shooting occurred at Mitchell Hall on the A&M-Commerce campus. A woman in a second story unit of the dorm had a minor wound in her arm and the window and ceiling had been shot. A single casing from an assault-style weapon was found outside.

A knife fight and a stolen vehicle were also reported the same night, but Baker was apparently not involved with either of those incidents. Baker was later found driving the vehicle of a victim in the knife fight without permission.

Baker was later arrested when he entered a Dallas Department of Public Safety office to renew his driver's license.
