Plea heard in connection to Merit shooting

By Brad Kellar

Merit – 46-year-old James Earl Lemons has pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated assault in connection to last year's shooting near Merit.

Lemons, of Point, is now scheduled to go to trial in February. He was indicted in August for allegedly using a shotgun to shoot the husband of his girlfriend.

Darryl Cox was shot in the stomach in September, 2008 at his residence along Farm-To-Market 1569.

Karen Cox, Darryl's wife, would later admit Lemons was her boyfriend. Karen Cox had a charge of hindering apprehension in connection to the incident dismissed last month.
