Point couple finds big diamond

By Kevin Jefferies

Point – A couple from Point is all smiles after finding a large diamond in Arkansas. Donald and Brenda Roden found the eighth largest diamond ever found at the Arkansas Crater of Diamonds State Park Saturday. The couple named the 6.35-carat gem the Roden Diamond . It is about the same size and color as a large coffee bean.

The park is the world's only public-operated park that allows people to search for and keep any gems they find. Over 25,000 diamonds have been found since the park opened in 1972. The largest diamond ever found in the U.S. was found at the site in 1924 and was a whopping 40.23 carats. It was named Uncle Sam .

The Rodens were unsure Saturday if they would keep or sell the diamond.
