Police chase leads to arrest of two local men

By Scott Harvey

Wills Point – Two Hunt County residents were arrested yesterday following a lengthy chase which stemmed from a burglary in Wills Point.

The men were alleged to have stolen a truck there and when pursued by law enforcement they attempted to flee, leading authorities on a chase through four counties with speeds topping 100 mph.

Upon first spotting the vehicle, deputies initiated a traffic stop at an intersection. But as a second deputy arrived on scene and began to exit his vehicle, the driver of the stolen truck accelerated toward him.

Shots were fired by the deputy, but no one was injured.

The chase ended nearly 45 minutes later in Dallas County, after authorities employed stop sticks and the truck became inoperable.

Charges against the two men include aggravated assault against a public servant, burglary of a habitation and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to officials, additional arrests and charges are likely.
