Police continue investigation into elderly resident's death

Greenville Herald-Banner

The Greenville Police Department is investigating the death of an elderly local resident, whose body was discovered in a cemetery over the weekend.

A memorial service is set Thursday for Robert Younger, 86, of Greenville.

Few details had been released as of Tuesday evening concerning the circumstances of Younger’s death.

City of Greenville Public Relations Liaison Autumn Barton said a cause of death had not been determined, pending the results of an autopsy.

The police department was characterizing it as an “unattended death” as of Tuesday evening.

A statement issued by the police department indicated that Younger’s body was found at the cemetery on U.S. Business 69 at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday. Investigators were dispatched to the scene and the police department said the investigation was ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this case is being asked to contact the department at 903-457-2900.

Younger was the owner of Varsity Clothing Center for 33 years until his retirement.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are with Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
