Police: Crockett Elementary student reports solicitation attempt

In Greenville, a Crockett Elementary School student reported being solicited by a stranger, according to a release by Greenville police.

The incident happened during the evening of Nov. 17, police said. A student walking home from Crockett Elementary observed a black Ford Mustang approach the student, the release said. An adult, described as an African-American with braided hair, said “Hey, come here,” to the child, police said.

The child then ran back to Crockett Elementary and reported the incident to a teacher, who called the police department, officials said. The child was interviewed by school staff, the release said. Police have begun investigating the identity and intent of the unknown adult, they said. The news release from the City of Greenville did not specify the gender of the suspicious adult.

“Incidents like this should serve as a reminder for parents to take time and discuss safety procedures with their children on a regular basis,” Greenville police chief Daniel Busken said.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Greenville Police Department at 903-457-2900.
