The Greenville Police Department will renew its participation in a regional agency cracking down on illegal narcotics activity.
The Greenville City Council is scheduled tonight to authorize Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken to enter into an agreement with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force. The vote included under the regular session agenda, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is set for 5 p.m.
The city joined with the task force in January. That agreement expires at the end of September.
These types of agreements benefit the department because they provide us with access to additional resources,” Busken said in a memo to the council. “There is evidence that trafficking in controlled substance pharmaceuticals and/or chemicals exists in the North Texas area. This illegal activity has a substantial and detrimental effect on the health and general welfare of the people in the North Texas area.”
The Greenville Police Department will assign one investigator to the task force, with a yearly salary and benefit cost of $89,663.
The DEA will reimburse the department for overtime costs of approximately $17,202 and will also provide a vehicle and fuel for the investigator assigned to the operation.
