Police to use old Dream Lodge lot as training ground

GREENVILLE - A former seedy motel in Greenville that was the site of a major drug bust one year ago will now be put to good use.

The City Council on Tuesday agreed to purchase the Dream Lodge Motel property along Interstate 30 from federal law enforcement.

City Manager Steven Alexander says police will use the lot for now as a training ground. The facility will eventually be demolished.

Police Chief Daniel Busken says this was the best way to avoid having the lot go to auction and prevent someone else from opening it back up as a motel. He says even though the facility was boarded up, it was still attracting squatters.
