Police warn against security system advertisements

By Scott Harvey

Paris – Paris residents receiving mail items from security alarm companies are being warned by police that this is merely a sales pitch, and is not endorsed by their department.

The flyers read that the police department has reported recent criminal activity within a mile of their home, and encourages citizens to invest in their alarm service. According to Crime Information Office Matt Birch, the department does not sell or release any personal information from offense reports to any company, entity or persons unless required to by statute.

But authorities say you can learn about criminal activity in the community by visiting www.crimereports.com, a free service Paris PD joined a few years ago that allows you to receive e-mail updates on criminal activity and where it is taking place.
