Police warn of home inspection scams

provided photo

At least two Commerce residents have reported an unusual phone call in reference to roofing and foundation inspections.

The Commerce Police Department has received at least two reports of a person that has called residents wanting to set up unsolicited inspections of roof and foundations in the area.

From what has been reported, a person by the name of Joel has called the residents and attempted to gain information from the residents about when they will be home so that he may come by to do a roof and foundation inspection.  What is unusual about this is that these calls are showing on caller ID from a local Commerce phone number.  However, the caller tells the residents to call a 1-800 number to set up the appointments or for more information.

The local phone number being used is being used without that owners consent.  At this point, we have not been able to verify the legitimacy of the caller or his services but we are looking into the matter.

Unless you have solicited such services, never give personal information to unsolicited callers.

Please be aware that there are countless roofing and repair service scams out there.
