Popular Greenville restaurant closing

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – The City of Greenville could be losing one of its most popular restaurants. Manager Tracy Hooker said the Royal Drive-In restaurant on Wesley Street is scheduled to be closed later this year, and will be replaced with a Dairy Queen.

The restaurant has been in Greenville since 1946. The current Royal was once a Dairy Queen and was in the exact spot where the new restaurant will be built; namely, next door, which is now the Royal's parking lot. But that restaurant's foundation had a host of problems forcing the construction of a Dairy Queen where the Royal is now.

Workers have already completed the surveying for the restaurant and the next step will be tearing up the parking lot in order to lay the new foundation which could happen by the end of the month.
