Portion of major highway project nears completion

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – It will be at least six more weeks before the State Highway 34/Wesley Street overpass in Greenville will be open to traffic.

The bridge deck for the overpass is scheduled to be poured on September 27 and October 3. It will then take another month for the deck to reach its required design strength to accept traffic on all lanes.

The nearly $40 million project to rebuild the overpass and to create an underpass of the Monty Stratton Parkway, plus other projects, began in early 2009. The contractor for the project is expected to provide an anticipate completion date for the entire effort in the near future.
