Possible bond election for Bonham ISD

By Scott Harvey

Bonham – Following an informal workshop Monday the Bonham ISD is moving forward with plans on a future bond election to improve campus facilities.

The decision was based on comments from school board members and members of the community present at the meeting.

In attendance was Kevin Smith of Claycomb and Associates who provided rough estimates of various improvement possibilities.

By conclusion of the meeting the district had developed a plan not to exceed $40 million in improvements. Preliminary plans include attaching the 5th and 6th grade to the existing L.H. Rather campus, move 4th grade to Finley-Oats by constructing a new wing, as well as a new gym at Finley-Oats, plus new core facilities for Bonham High School such as a new front entrance, office space, cafeteria, media center, gym and science labs.

More details are to be addressed at the BISD's next meeting set for Tuesday, August 18.
