Power outage caused by transformer failure

By Ashley Johnson, Publications Writer

Commerce – A power outage at Texas A&M University-Commerce closed all buildings on campus today at approximately 8:15 a.m. Power was restored at 11:30 a.m. All classes at the Commerce campus were canceled until 12:30 p.m. All buildings were evacuated and water and refreshments were available to staff and students.

The primary buildings affected were the Agricultural Science and Information Technology building, the library and the performing arts center.

Classes resumed at 12:30 p.m. Class registration has been extended through Monday, Sept. 1, and payment deadlines have been extended to Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The outage was caused by a transformer failure in the Agricultural Science and Information Technology building. As a result, power was off throughout campus. University faculty, staff and students were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure, and asked to remain off campus until further notice.

KETR continues to be experiencing difficulties and is working diligently to get its regularly scheduled programming back on the air.
