Power outages aftermath of thunderstorm

Nearly 7,000 residents in Sulphur Springs were without power following strong thunderstorm winds that hit Memorial Day evening.

City Manager Marc Maxwell does not expect power to be restored Tuesday morning.

Winds in excess of 60 mph caused many downed trees across Hopkins County including disabling signal lights.

Some of the hardest hit areas of Sulphur Springs were the airport in which several small aircraft were toppled into the fence, many trees near Hopkins County Memorial Hospital endured damage as well as ripping down the awning from Joe Bob's has station at pipeline road putting it out of service near the hospital.

Motorists need to be cautious of downed power lines and flash flooding. Turn around, don't drown. 37 counties in the State of Texas are under a state of emergency.
