Prairiland ISD trustee set to resign over alleged attack on teacher
Trustee Lowell Gillie's attorney, Mike Mosher, says, "He plans to resign. Why put up with this hassle for a voluntary position?"
Gillie, who's wife teaches at Prairiland, and who's two children attend the school, has been censured by the board of trustees Monday after an alleged incident involving a physical attack on a school teacher at the Lamar County Junior Livestock Show.
In addition to censure, the board resolution instructs the administration to cause a notice of trespass be served on Gillie, excluding hime from attendance at all school-sponsored events for a period of one calendar year, according to a story by the Paris News.
However, it seems the board isn't interested in removing Gillie, and in fact couldn't, unless he chose to resign. A public officer may only be removed for incompetency, and even then the motion would require a petition to the station attorney general (or the county/district attorney could petition a district court for a hearing.
PISD Superintendent Jeff Ballard claims he's not yet received Gillie's letter of resignation.
Lowell Gillie, a Prairiland graduate, owns and operates Gillie Insulation. He was elected to the board in May 2009. His wife, Michelle, teaches Reading Recovery at Blossom Elementary. They have 2 children, a girl-Bailey that attends Prairiland High School and a boy-Bonner that attends Prairiland Jr. High.
