President proposes three strategies for A&M-Commerce

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – During a recent address to Texas A&M University-Commerce Faculty and Staff, President Dan Jones proposed three strategies to be implemented.

The first strategy is to strengthen the link between strategic planning and the budget. Dr. Jones plans to establish a committee that will be responsible for ensuring that strategic goals are translated into budget priorities.

''Accountability and transparency begin at home,'' says Jones. ''If we are to demonstrate to our external stakeholders that we are wise stewards of the resources entrusted to our use, we also need to be able to demonstrate the same to one another. I am grateful that I am inheriting a well-conceived strategic planning process. I plan to refine the process by creating a Budget Review and Development Committee.''

Members of the Budget Review and Development Committee will have access to detailed budget information, and they will be responsible for recommending a comprehensive annual budget to the president.

According to Jones, Vice President for Business and Administration Bob Brown is currently working with his staff to come up with a draft proposal to implement this process. Jones plans to share that draft with university leadership later on this semester.

KETR will address Dr. Jones' second concrete strategy; implement a strategic enrollment management team, on Wednesday.
