Prison setence given in Commerce drug case

By Brad Kellar

Commerce, Greenville – A prison sentence is been handed down in a Commerce drug case.

Markus Ladane Stevenson, of Greenville, pleaded guilty Thursday to possession of cocaine in Commerce in 2007 and also admitted to previously dismissed charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated sexual assault.

Under a plea bargain arraignment, Stevenson was sentence to 12 years in prison.

The robbery and assault charges were dismissed last November after prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the cases. However, during Thursday's hearing, Stevenson took responsibility for the offenses. Stevenson was one of three men indicted in connection to a reported 2007 armed hold up at a Commerce residence.
