Probations ordered in Commerce robbery

By Brad Kellar

Commerce – Probations have been granted in connection to a Commerce robbery.

Two cousins, Arenza Von Hawkins and Justin Aaron Harper-Smith, both of Commerce, were each ordered to serve 10 years of probation Thursday. They are also to serve 180 days confinement and to complete 1000 hours of community service. Hawkins and Smith waived indictments and entered open pleas of guilty last month.

Reports indicate Hawkins and Smith in May, 2008 held three employees of the Chicken Express restaurant in Commerce at gunpoint, allegedly with a beebee gun, before making off with money from the cash register. Smith, alongside Hawkins, admitted to the crime a few days later.
