Program aimed to protect homeowners from crooks

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Commerce Police have initiated a new program aimed at protecting home owners from becoming targets of theft and other crimes.

It empowers a home owner with the piece of mind that he or she is doing their part in crime prevention while making their residence a less appealing target for criminals. The program allows the city's crime prevention office to go in and survey a homeowner's residence to determine any weaknesses and strengths to their overall security.

Police are especially warning citizens this holiday season to be extra alert to any suspicious activity within your neighborhood. They encourage you to get to know your neighbors and don't be afraid to report anything out of the ordinary.

More information on the city's new crime prevention tool is available by calling Office Alex Suarez at 903-886-1139.
