Proposed new cities may not have government

By Kevin Jefferies

Hunt County – Voters will get the chance in May to decide whether to create two new communities in Hunt County; but if they do, there may not be anyone to govern them. The deadline for filing for local elections in May is today, and for the proposed cities of Floyd and Union Valley, not many have stepped up to become the first leaders of the proposed new communities.

Only one person had filed for city commissioner candidacy in Floyd as of Friday, and no one had filed in Union Valley. On the ballot in May will be the choice of whether to incorporate both communities into Class C municipalities, and also candidates for mayor and city commissioners.

Filing for May elections continues through 5pm today.
