Public provides input into transportation issues

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Mass transit was among some of the topics addressed by the public during Tuesday's transportation meeting in Greenville.

Representatives from the North Central Texas Council of Governments were in town to gather ideas on how to produce a viable and comprehensive Hunt County Transportation Plan.

Calls of a regional rail system for commuters could lay the foundation for additional projects and major growth and, according to the NCTCOG's Assistant Director of Transportation Dave Kessler, is the most important issue.

Public comments also referenced more bicycle paths, a more efficient traffic light system and the need for more shoulders along county and farm-to-market roads.

The NCTCOG will return to Hunt County several times this year to collect data and inform the public, with hopes of drafting and adopting a comprehensive transportation plan early next year.
