Quinlan man pleads no contest to homicide

By Brad Kellar

Quinlan, Wills Point – A local man appears in court regarding a tragic accident that killed three Van Zandt County residents in 2006.

Eddie Dale Malone, of Quinlan, entered open pleas of no contest Thursday to three counts of criminally negligent homicide. An open plea means no potential sentence in the case had been offered or arranged. Malone had originally pleaded not guilty to three counts of intoxication manslaughter. A punishment hearing has now been scheduled for June 15.

Driver George Alvin Dillard; his wife, Flesta "Doris" Dillard; and Earnest Peters, all of Wills Point, died as a result of the accident.

Malone is facing a maximum sentence upon conviction of from 180 days to two years in a state jail and an optional fine of up to $10,000 on each of the three state jail felony counts.
