Rain coming Wed. night; snow-rain mix possible later

A rain-snow mix is possible in Northeast Texas on Jan. 22-23.
NWS

Rain is on its way to Northeast Texas on Wednesday night, and some snow might follow Thursday night and into Friday morning.

However, with the ground fairly warm and temperatures expected to hover in the 30s, no significant snow or ice accumulations are currently expected on area roads. Drivers should monitor the most recent weather reports later this week and use caution on bridges and overpasses.

Wednesday night’s forecast for the region predicts rain arriving late, with early-morning low temperatures in the low 40s on Thursday morning. Easterly winds around 5-15 mph, gusting to 20, are expected to bring the cold front into the region.

On Thursday, temperatures should remain in the low 40s, with wind out of the northeast 15-25 mph.

Thursday night, the region has a 50 percent chance for more rain, possibly changing to snow as temperatures dip into the 30s overnight.

Friday morning, current forecasts give a 30 percent chance for rain or snow, though temperatures should rise into the upper 40s by Friday afternoon, by which time skies should be clearing.

The current forecast for Friday night predicts partly cloudy skies, with lows possibly dropping just below the freezing mark.

Extended forecasts for the weekend project a return to sunny skies, with highs in the 50s on Saturday and possibly reaching 60 on Sunday.
