Hunt County – More rain has prompted the closing of roads in Hunt County and officials to ask for evacuations of some areas. 2.8 inches of rain was recorded at majors Field in Greenville, marking the wettest day so far of 2007. County officials have asked for the voluntary evacuations of Hideaway Estates just north of Lake Tawakoni. Officials went door-to-door yesterday informing residents of fears the entryway to the community would wash away, stranding residents.
High waters also closed several roads throughout the county, including FM 1564 and 2101 south of Greenville and US 380 west of Greenville. Officials caution motorists to pay attention to road barricades. Some motorists have been ignoring or moving the signs to gain passage to closed roads.
On Monday, Governor Perry declared 37 Texas counties, including Hunt County, disaster areas.
