Randy Meeks unopposed for Hunt County Sheriff in November
GREENVILLE - The race for the Hunt County Sheriff’s post is apparently over, after the only candidate set to challenge incumbent Randy Meeks this fall has withdrawn.
W.F. “Bill” McLendon issued a statement Tuesday indicating he would no longer be seeking the office. He had filed as an independent for sheriff following Meeks' defeat of republican challenger Richard Hill in the May 29 primary election.
In order to appear on the November ballot, McLendon was required to collect a sufficient number of signatures from voters who did not participate in the primary by June 29. But in his statement, McLendon said he realized that his candidacy for sheriff would only interfere with things that will always come first in his life.
Since no democratic challengers have filed for Hunt County Sheriff, Meeks is unopposed for the November election.
