Recent rains bring back relatively normal conditions

TAWAKONI - Area lakes were among the beneficiaries of this week’s rains, with Lake Tawakoni now less than a half a foot below its fill stage. In December the lake was down more than six feet.

However, the North Texas Municipal Water District remains under Stage 3 of its Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan. Stage 3 was reached not only because of drought, which ended locally last month, but because of the loss of raw water from Lake Texoma due to the invasion of zebra mussels.

The  North Texas Municipal Water District provides water to more than 1.6 million North Texas residents.
