Recycling begins Saturday in Commerce

COMMERCE - The Commerce Recycling Bin is open for business beginning Saturday and every first Saturday of the month thereafter.

Recyclable items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wastewater Treatment Plant along FM 3218, south of Hydro Aluminum.

People are encouraged to start saving their items to drop off: 

            Plastic: Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 including milk jugs, liter bottles, shampoo bottles, etc.  Or butter tubs or byproducts  (No plastic bags or take out containers or utensils)

            Glass:  All colors  and rinsed, but no plate glass, mirrors or ceramic.

            Metal:  All metal food and beverage cans rinsed.  Do not bundle or leave in bags at drop off.

            Newspapers, catalogs and magazines:  Do not leave in bags at drop off.

            Junk mail, cardboard and mixed household paper: Junk mail,  cereal boxes, chipboard and any other household paper produce.  NO tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products.  All cardboard must be broken down as much as possible as only flattened boxes accepted.

NOT ACCEPTED ITEMS:  Batteries, bubble wrap, ceramics, chemicals, diapers, food soiled boxes like pizza boxes, hardback books, household hazardous waste and toxic containers, kitchen waste, motor oil bottles, oil, paint, plastic bags, plastic takeout containers and utensils, styrofoam, tires, trash, waxed cartons, window glass, yard waste.

Commerce businesses, institutions and organizations may recycle from 1 to 4 p.m. on Mondays or by appointment.  For more information call 903 886-6792 or 886-6710.
