Thursday is the last day for local voters to make sure they are registered, and have the correct address on their registration forms, in order to be eligible to participate in the May 10 Greenville Independent School District election.
The Greenville Chamber is hosting a public forum next week for voters to hear and ask questions about the district’s bond election. The forum is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center and will include an informational presentation, with time for questions and answers.
The Greenville Chamber of Commerce is in support of the proposed $72 million bond, which, if approved by voters, would provide funding for:
— Constructing a new Bowie Elementary School
— Constructing a Career and Technology Academy addition and renovation of the existing high school CTE space
— Improving safety and security systems at all District campuses
— Improving wireless infrastructure and access to technology at each of the District’s campuses
— Providing facility upgrades and improvements at each District campus
The estimated tax increase of this bond is anticipated to be 21.46 cents per $100 valuation. An average homeowner would see an increase of approximately $14.48 per month ($173.76 per year) in property taxes.
Places 2, 3 and 4 on the Greenville ISD board will also be on the May 10 ballot. Place 2 incumbent Tom Durham will be facing Trena Stafford, incumbent Place 3 board member Dr. Kim Hunt Butcher is facing Michael Phillips and Mitchal Vaughn will face Lesley Overstreet for the Place 4 post.
Election Day voting will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations: Election Districts 2, 3, 4 and 5 – Fletcher Warren Civic Center, 5501 South Highway 69, Greenville, Texas 75402
Election Districts 1, 6 and 7, Reecy Davis Recreation Center, 4320 Lee Street, Greenville, 75401
Voters can register or make a change of address in order to be effective for election day, through the Hunt County Voter Administration Office, 2217 Washington Street in downtown Greenville.
Early voting is scheduled April 28-May 6.
