Greenville – A more than $20 million project designed to treat the City of Greenville's sewer discharge is nearly halfway complete.
Officials broke ground on the project last July. The new Sequencing Batch Reactor Wastewater Treatment Plant is being built next to the current Wastewater Reclamation Center along Division St. The facility will replace the existing building, which had become outdated.
As of this week, the project was reportedly 53 percent complete.
The existing plant, constructed in 1953, has undergone numerous upgrades, but not enough to consistently comply with permitting requirements from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
