Reports Of Rabies On The Rise After Being Nearly Eliminated

Greenville Animal Hospital

Dr. Karri McCreary, veterinarian and co-owner of the Greenville Animal Hospital, reflects on article reporting that rabies in household pets is becoming more common.  San Antonio reported its first case of a dog with rabies in 30 years last summer, and early this year six people and eight pets came in contact with a rabid dog at Zilker Park in Austin.  Dr. McCreary says she heard of a rabid dog in Rockwall.  Rabies had almost been entirely eliminated in dogs by the end of the 20th century.  Dr. McCreary says it remains vitally important for pet owners to vaccinate their pets.
