SULPHUR SPRINGS - $8,500 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for vandalizing the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial.

The defaced property was realized last week after someone scratched words into part of the limestone that displays the etched names of fallen veterans from the county.

The Veterans Memorial committee, along with the City of Sulphur Springs has teamed to donate $2,500 apiece for the effort, while Hopkins County Crime Stoppers have added $3,000, plus a $500 anonymous donation.

The Hopkins County Veterans Memorial was unveiled in late June. Anyone can purchase a brick at $300 and have engraved with the name of a veteran either born in, who lived in or is buried in Hopkins County.

Anyone with information about the crime can call Hopkins County Crime Stoppers at 903-885-7602.
