Rheba Martin Icenhower Awards Cermony Saturday

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – About 35 Commerce educators are to be recognized Saturday at the first annual Rheba Martin Icenhower Awards Cermony.

Recipients are to be honored for their outstanding achievements, encouraging spirit to students, love for the classroom and high standards they've set for themselves.

A native of Commerce, Icenhower attended the University Training School and graduated with a BS in 1950 and M.Ed. in 1952 from East Texas State Teachers College. She's taught in several area school districts, including Commerce ISD, and presently serves as an adjunct instructor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Superintendent of Greenville ISD Don Jefferies will be the guest speaker for Saturday's awards ceremony, which is free and open to the public. Special recognition will be paid to Icenhower during the event, which begins at 6 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Commerce, Family Ministry Building.
