Ribbon cutting Friday for Fannin County jail

By Scott Harvey

Fannin County – A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday for the new Fannin County Detention Center and Sheriff's Office.

The new 432-bed jail facility is located at 2389 Silo Road in Bonham. The building will be the 15th private jail facility in Texas operated by Community Education Centers, Inc (CEC). Fannin County will be expected to house between 120-130 prisoners in the new jail, with the majority of beds filled by prisoners under jurisdiction of the U.S. Marshal Service.

In all, 65 jailers will be needed to operate the facility.

Fannin County's close proximity to federal courthouses in Sherman and Plano factored heavily in CEC's final decision to build in Bonham. Fannin County will assume complete ownership of the jail in 25 years when the debt obligation is met.

The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday.
