Rita evacuees need food in Commerce

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Meal donations are being sought for Hurricane Rita evacuees in Commerce. About 75 people who escaped the Beaumont and Port Arthur areas are staying at the Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Lodge in Commerce, and have been told it may be three weeks or more before they can return home. Some of the displaced victims of Rita have lost their homes to flood waters and high winds, and local relief organizations are looking for food donations to help feed the evacuees. Anyone able to help can contact Sue Porter at 903.886.8933 or Penny Belcher at 903.468.8170.
