Rita should bring rain to area, busy weekend events compensating

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The City of Commerce will be feeling the effects of Hurricane Rita this weekend. The area is projected to see up to 40mph winds and isolated thunderstorms this weekend. With several athletic events, the 20th Annual Bois d'Arc Bash, and Family Day surrounding the A&M-Commerce football game Saturday, some schedule changes have been made.

Events for the Bois d'Arc Bash will continue as normal, with live music starting things off at 5pm Friday, events planned all day in downtown Commerce Saturday, and the Car and Truck show downtown at 10am Sunday.

A&M-Commerce football and other athletic events have seen some significant scheduling changes. The Lions game against Central Oklahoma has been moved from a 6pm kick-off, to a noon start. The Pre-Game Tailgate party will still be held before the game, starting at 10:30, and will be moved inside in event of rain.
Other Family Day events at the University will go on as planned Saturday, with family check-in at 9am in the main hall of the student center.

Tonight's A&M-Commerce volleyball match has been cancelled due to lack of travel accommodations, and the soccer game scheduled for Saturday against Southwestern Oklahoma has been pushed back to next Tuesday.
