Road construction in Commerce continues as workers replace the water lines on Lee and Stonewall streets.
The three year project is in its first phase which includes the reconstruction of portions of Lee, Stonewall, Monroe and Bois d’ Arc Streets.
Phase One also included Harlow Road, off of Farm Road 3218. After a street indexing conducted by Halff Associates, it was named the worst road in Commerce. Reconstruction of Harlow Road was completed in January, which included a four-inch asphalt with concrete curb and gutter, a storm drainage system, and a six-inch sanitary sewer line.
According to a June 2012 KETR report, The $4.8 million project includes $3 million in approved bonds by voters in 2008, another $875,000 from Texas A&M University-Commerce and $940,000 in Texas Water Development Board funds.
The university dollars will go toward the restoration of Lee, Bois d’ Arc and West Neal Streets, which border campus.
