Rocket powered aircraft to be tested at Majors Field Airport

By Scott Harvey

Greenville – Greenville residents and businesses near Majors Field Municipal Airport may hear some unusual sounds over the next few weeks.

The Rocket Racing League (RRL) and Armadillo Aerospace are to conduct testing of a rocket powered airplane throughout the month, with testing to begin Tuesday.

The aircraft is somewhat louder than a general aviation aircraft and a 15 foot flame extends from the rocket engine. Residents and businesses near Majors Field may hear the aircraft and see the flame as the testing is conducted. It is expected that three to four short tests will be conducted each day during the testing phase, which will occur several days during October.
