Bonham – Days after Bonham residents failed to approve a nearly $25 million bond proposal for school improvements, residents are calling for another election.
During the BISD Board meeting this week, resident Matt Andrews encouraged administrators to consider again proposing a school improvement plan, while Michael Williams said better facilities are needed to provide safety and comfort for students and teachers. Additionally, Sandy Barber stressed the need for more gyms throughout the district, specifically at I.W. Evans and Bonham High School.
Saturday's bond proposal, if passed, would have provided the necessary funding for a gymnasium at I.W. Evans, plus more classrooms, as well as a new library at the high school. Voters rejected the measure, with 54 percent opposed.
In 2009, 70 percent of Bonham residents rejected a $40 million bond proposal for campus improvements.
