School zone speed change coming to Bonham

By Scott Harvey

Bonham – Motorists in Bonham will soon notice a change in speed zones along portions of Highway 78.

The Bonham City Council Monday approved an ordinance initiated by the Texas Department of Transportation that establishes reduced speeds in school zones on Highway 78 from the north to the south city limits.

The Bonham Independent School District prior to this fall renovated its administrative building on its Bailey English campus to also house the Fannin County Head Start program, a preschool service for three and four year olds. The Head Start program now occupies about three-quarters of the building.

In the near future, TxDot will be posting signs along the Highway, which will limit drivers to 20 mph 45 minutes before classes begin, during lunch and 45 after classes end.
