Now that he's leading some polls, Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain is working to show that he's here to stay. One candidate after another has caught fire in recent months, only to flame out. In a talk with NPR's Scott Simon, the pizza company executive insisted he has more substance than Michele Bachmann or even Rick Perry.
HERMAN CAIN: Here's how I prevent my campaign from being the flavor of the week as some people call it. The difference is you've got, you know, that rice milk and then what I call Haagen-Dazs Black Walnut ice cream which never loses its taste and I could eat it seven days a week. It's called substance.
INSKEEP: Set aside for a moment, that ABC News fact checked Mr. Cain's statements and reported that Haagen-Dazs Black Walnut ice cream is no longer offered. Mr. Cain is, for the moment, leading even Mitt Romney, the man behind whom some leading Republicans have been lining up.
CAIN: It's not like I've never been in the spotlight before. And so I happen to think that I alone, with the people that I'm surrounded myself with, will be able to deal with being at this new level in this whole Republican presidential primary.
