Search for Commerce Fire Chief enters final stage

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – As the City of Commerce prepares to hire a new City Manager, they're also closing in on naming a new Fire Chief. Interim City Manager Marc Clayton says only two finalists remain in the search.

Both finalists will now be brought individually, and spend a day at the fire station. Clayton says this will give each candidate a chance to interact with fire officials, who will then be allowed to give their impressions of the candidates. One individual was scheduled to come in Wednesday, while the other will be in tomorrow.

Clayton, along with Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews and Community Development Director Steve Wilson make up the interview panel.

Clayton says depending on the results of these visits, the City could possibly be ready to offer the job sometime next week.

On Monday, Council members narrowed their list of candidates for Commerce City Manager down to four. If all goes as planned, the job could be offered sometime next month with a new City Manager in office by August.
